Fluoride, well-known for its anti-cavity properties, can be found in drinking water all across Canada but not in Vancouver.
Using fluoride-containing toothpaste is very important for cavity prevention, and our office recommends Colgate Prevident 5000 and 3M Clinpro 5000 for patients with high risk caries. These brands contain sodium fluoride 1.1% w/w and are clinically proven to help with enamel remineralization. The 3m Clinpro 5000 also contains tri-calcium phosphate which assists in reversing initial cavities.
These products are available at local retail pharmacies such as Shoppers and London Drugs, and are recommended for children ages 6 and up.
